During our week of not living at home because the floors were being done, my copy of "The Frisco Kid" arrived. I have seen this movie probably about a dozen times now and I still love it. I wanted to show this for my birthday movie fest long ago but it wasn't available, so yay for it finally being available on dvd.

I saw this like two weeks ago now. It's a fun bad movie, sometimes funny. Every fight scene is almost the same, a group of guys surrounds her and she kills them all. Last night I watched The Cookout while I sorted recycling. This movie had potential, but I think the first-time screen writers and directors killed that. The comedy is often forced and that leaves you wanting more drama out of it. I think the direction of a light-hearted drama would have been a good direction for it to go. Pauly Shore is Dead is like watching someone's therapy during a major transition. It also manages to be fairly funny at the same time. It's good enough that I've watched all the DVD extras, but part of that might just be fascination at the whole project. If you watch this, be sure to check ou the version of "It's Been Awhile" in the extras.

We happened across another DVD sale at the local video store and picked up 15 movies for $4 each.

First up is Club Dread. It's a slasher flick parody without going overboard on jokes. That's good in that you aren't overwhelmed in wackiness, but bad in that it makes it just entertaining enough to not bother doing something else.

The Hebrew Hammer - Parody of the blaxploitation style with lots of Jewish jokes. I thought it was really funny and I'd say check it out. You probably won't miss too many jokes if you aren't Jewish.

Hang 'Em High
The is the second old Clint Eastwood western I've seen, the first was The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. I think I liked this one better. The characters feel real and have difficult decisions to make, even the minor ones seem to stand out.

I saw Aeon Flux the other day and it was bad in many ways, but the kind of bad that's fun. The script was bad, most of the acting was bad, most of the ideas behind it was bad. What was good? "The Whole 9 Yards" was a fun movie so as I sat down to watch "The Whole 10 Yards" I was hoping for more of the same. Instead it's mostly pretty boring.
